What to Know and What to Bring for Your Workshop or Retreat

🌿 Why the Menu of Our Quantum Retreat Is Mostly Vegetarian

At Owl Creek we didn’t choose the retreat menu randomly. It follows the same principles we explore during the Quantum Grounding Retreat. One of the key ideas we talk about is coherence, when body, mind, environment and intention align, the whole system functions better.

This is not only spiritual language. There is also science exploring similar dynamics. Modern research shows the connection between what we eat, our gut, and our brain is very real. Scientists often refer to it as the gut–brain connection — the communication between digestion, nervous system and mental clarity. Research from Harvard Medical School explains how the intestinal microbiome can influence mood, stress response and cognitive function.

Other studies published in
Nutrition Reviews and BMJ discuss how diets rich in vegetables, fiber and whole foods are associated with lower inflammation and better overall regulation of the body’s systems.

In simple terms, the body, brain and nervous system respond to what we eat. Heavier foods require more digestive work. Lighter foods often help the system remain calmer and more receptive. That is one of the reasons why during the retreat we offer a farm-to-table vegetarian menu:

Simple meals connected to the land

Foods that help support clarity, calmness and presence while we explore how attention, environment and awareness interact with the natural laws that influence energy and life. The goal is not theory. The goal is to experience how small changes can affect how we feel, think and move through the day.

At the same time, we want to be very clear about something. We are not giving medical advice and we are not trying to impose a specific diet on anyone. This is simply the nutritional approach we chose for the two days of the retreat because it supports the type of experience we are creating.

If someone feels they need animal protein during the retreat, we are absolutely happy to accommodate. We can provide high-quality farm chicken, sourced with care and respect for the animal and the land. And if someone has personal, cultural or medical reasons for eating differently, we fully respect that.

Our intention is not restriction. Our intention is coherence. Because if we are exploring connection — with nature, with ourselves and with the deeper mechanics of life — then the food we eat naturally becomes part of that same conversation.

At Owl Creek we try to keep things simple, honest and grounded both in experience and in understanding. And sometimes the smallest changes open the most interesting discoveries.
